The Solar Bat program was designed to engage students in multi-disciplinary and service learning by helping them plan, assemble and operate student-owned, school-based cooperatives that recharge AA, AAA, C and D batteries using energy harvested from fixed and mobile photovoltaic panels. The need for The Solar Bat was established by a survey on battery use completed by over 400 teens at Athol High School.
